DESCRIPTION: APW - Seth Thomas, Grade 291, 21J, Model 5, 18S, nickel OF display recase, white enamel DS impressed dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#234995. A scarce and very attractive movement; per the excellent info at Eric Unselt's www.seththomasresearch.com website, the Grade 291 is believed to have a total production of approximately 1100 made.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, regulator is a replacement with some oxide that extends a bit past the index and also lacks a tail to be controlled by the regulator spring, recommend its replacement with a proper original Model 5 regulator, otherwise excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent two-tone color with some attractive mild toning to gilt portion of barrel bridge, some scattered micro-fine scratches; excellent dial with some curved fine scratches at several areas of perimeter, minuscule edge flake under bezel near 12:30; excellent hands; case shows little wear, some fine scratches and small nicks, no dents; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystals with some glue excess at their seats, front with a small finish bubble at lower-center.
